Freshers’ Scout Ushers in New Students with Heartfelt Hospitality

The three-day Freshers’ Scout reached 400 students, offering guidance, support, and a warm welcome into college life through visits, talks, and shared resources.

The Freshers' Scout was organized by The HESA Organizing Committee (HESORG) led by Edwin Nkrumah Scott and Rebecca Awinbila, along with 10 other committee members and lasted three days, from January 14th to 16th, 2025. It reached approximately 400 students across Unity Hall, University Hall (the residences of most of our health science freshers) and the Great Hall during the freshers’ orientation.

The program's aim was to make our freshers feel welcomed, supported, and connected to our college community right from the onset. The team, dressed in HESA T-shirts which signified the spirit of unity and identity, visited the halls of residence of the new students to engage with them, address their concerns, and provide guidance on how to navigate college life. They shared essential information about the orientation, introduced them to senior course mates and college leaders, and organized inspiring talks and activities to foster a sense of unity and belonging. To ensure that our freshers had a comprehensive guide to life on and off campus, a soft copy of the Freshman guide was made available to students.

The Freshers' Scout was extremely successful thanks to the unwavering efforts of the organizing committee. The program has set a great precedent for future events, and is projected to have a positive impact on the new students.
