KNUST Health Students Gain Life-saving First Aid Skills In Hands-on Training
During
the HESA Week celebration, the Association organized a first aid training
session spearheaded by the Health Officer of the College, Stephen Debrah
Aduse-Poku, with support from SEMT Akwasi Agyemang and his team. The training aimed
at empowering students with the ability to provide immediate care in emergencies,
which aligns with their broader role as future healthcare professionals.
Participants were grouped into two to allow for better engagement and personalized instruction. Each group, guided by a qualified trainer, was introduced to a range of critical first aid topics, including bleeding control, CPR, management of fractures, and how to handle unconscious patients. The trainers emphasized practical demonstrations, and students were encouraged to perform the techniques themselves under supervision, to ensure that the learning process was not only theoretical but practical and relatable to real-life scenarios. This allowed students to gain confidence and clarity on how to respond swiftly and correctly in emergencies, both on and off campus. SEMT Agyemang emphasized the significance of First Aid: “The extra second of the right intervention can be the difference between life and death”, he shared.
Feedback from participants indicated that the session was both impactful and enlightening. Participants expressed appreciation for the clarity of instruction and the opportunity to practice with professional oversight. The program achieved its intended outcomes, as evidenced by the students’ ability to demonstrate their newly acquired skills effectively. Special acknowledgment was given to SEMT Akwasi Agyemang and SEMT Kwadwo Agyemang, whose expertise and dedication played a pivotal role in the event's success. Their structured approach and engaging delivery helped simplify complex procedures, making the session not only educational but also enjoyable and memorable for the attendees.
